In our contemporary history, Italy and Hong Kong have had a strong bilateral connection for a long time. At present, Hong Kong boasts several thousand Italian expats, and the number is growing by the day!
However, this is not all. Italian culture is becoming more and more popular in “Asia’s World City.” Hong Kong has become the home of a vibrant community of Italian lifestyle lovers, who delight in the cuisine, art, fashion, and all the other fine things coming from “The Boot.”
What is more, Italy and Hong Kong have also developed robust business and trade relations. In recent years, Hong Kong has ranked in the Top 3 markets for exports from Italy.
That said, seldom do we think about who the people and institutions that nurture this long-standing union are. In today’s article, we give you a glimpse into the list of responsible organizations that help Italy citizens and lovers live fulfilling, enriching lives in Hong Kong.
The Consulate General of Italy in Hong Kong
The Consulate General of Italy in Hong Kong’s primary mission is to provide assistance and relevant information to Italian citizens visiting or residing in Hong Kong. It offers many services to Italians, such as:
- Electronic Identity Card
- Apostille
- Notarial Services
- Vital Records
- Translation and legalization of documents
- Etc.
However, this is not all. The Consulate also assists foreign citizens interested in or liaising with Italy. For instance, residents of Hong Kong who want to visit Italy can obtain visas there. The Consulate also deals with citizenship issues and translation and authorization of documents for foreigners. Last but not least, since Italian education is very popular in Hong Kong, the Consulate would be the first place to call if you need assistance with studying opportunities on “The Boot.”
And – finally – whether you are an Italian citizen or not, you can always call the Consulate to inquire about any upcoming cultural events and initiatives in Hong Kong!
The Italian Cultural Institute of Hong Kong and Macau
The Italian Cultural Institute of Hong Kong and Macau is the institutional platform where the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, under the Directorate General for Cultural and Economic Promotion and Innovation, popularizes Italian culture and language in Hong Kong.
Established in 2010, the Directorate General for Cultural and Economic Promotion and Innovation aims to provide continuous integration and synergy between the key components responsible for promoting Italy abroad. The latter fall within several groups, such as entertainment and arts, economic diplomacy, promotion of tourism and sports, and a few more.
Since we have already talked about Hong Kong’s affinity towards Italian education, it is important to note that the Directorate also plays an essential part in the internationalization of the educational system on “The Boot.”
That said, let us go back to the mission of the Italian Cultural Institute of Hong Kong and Macau. The Institute was founded on the underlying belief that culture is a primary factor in driving growth and promoting the vibrant image of Italy across “Asia’s World City.”
A major step in this endeavor has been the Vivere all’italiana (Italian Way of Life) program. The latter showcases key aspects of the Italian lifestyle and promotes Italian culture and living.
The Cultural Institute provides a variety of services and useful information to everyone in Hong Kong who is somehow interested in Italy. Here, you can learn the latest topics in a wide range of areas. From the latest books by Italian authors to the available opportunities to join archaeological expeditions in Italy, this place will give you close to every detail you need on “The Boot.”
